How on earth did I miss this one?
As anyone on my team will tell you -- I have a little flashlight obsession.*
They mock me, but when the lights go out, or we're paged to the back of beyond at 2 AM, who is the only one NOT flogging through the dark?
That'd be me.
*and you thought it was only pencils.

By The Way
"And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt."

Merry Go Round
Is it creepy or fun?
This picture made me thing of Something Wicked This Way Comes, so I vote creepy.

Fent-TON!
Latest viral video.
And for Fenton, I quote:
And for Fenton, I quote:
"To be nobody but yourself
in a world which is doing its best,
night and day to make you everybody else,
means to fight the hardest battle
which any human being could fight;
and keep fighting."

Turkey Day
This year's turkey was beautiful! We drank a toast to our absent loved ones and ate ourselves into a tryptophan coma.

Virus
Don't you hate it when something goes viral and you're the last one on earth to know?
In case you missed it.
Where have you been!?
May we present - ta-daa -
Honey Badger.
The viral video.
The Facts.
Must of been my early flu shot.

When you're talking to your friend about your new wrinkle cream and she says,
"Does it work?"
It doesn't.

Pencil Test
I was looking at my pencil collection, and it occurred to me -- one day my heirs will be sorting through this stuff, and I bet one of them asks, "Why'd she wrap pencils in bubble wrap?"
And someone else will say, "Wasn't Gran a weird old thing?"
Wait 'til they get to the notebooks.

Geekier than thou. A little less geekier than those.
My computer started to overheat on a regular basis.
Even though Macs are notorious for running hot, this was something different. Processes would s l o w way down while the brain tried to keep the heart from exploding.
Or, while the software tried to prevent the hardware from melting. Take your pick.
I googled. And downloaded.
Lots of directions.
Took the plunge. Bought a new hard drive.
While I waited for that to arrive, jury rigged a laptop cooling device.
Then, like Christmas, the night finally arrived. Change the hard drive time. Note, three sets of directions.
Almost there.
Voila. I did it.
This morning, we're running 60 degrees cooler on the CPU.
How changing the hard drive accomplished that, I do not know.
I'm only slightly geeky.

Home Again, Home Again
Back from the writer's conference.
Amazed there still exists, folks cowed by computer.
'course, I was writing with pencil bemoaning the fact, apparently classrooms no longer sport pencil sharpeners on at least one wall.
What is this world coming to?
Don't know, Ethel.

Obstructions
1st day of the writer's conference. Lots freaked about media changes because of new technology.
Those who get over that quickly will be leaps ahead of those who resist.
They're just computers, my dears.
Resistance is futile.
One speaker got me teary-eyed. Laura Munson. The story of how she was published after persisting through years and years of rejection is worth a read.
Laura Munson
In between I played with the camera.
One more day and it's home for me.
Post title comes from Laura's topic today -- how we stand in the way of our success.

Dream
You must live in the present,
launch yourself on every wave,
find your eternity in each moment.
Fools stand on their island of opportunities
and look toward another land.
There is no other land;
there is no other life but this.
launch yourself on every wave,
find your eternity in each moment.
Fools stand on their island of opportunities
and look toward another land.
There is no other land;
there is no other life but this.
— Henry David Thoreau

Tillamook Lighthouse
Shot from far, far away with this little Canon.
Not a bad little camera when a person gets tired of carrying this one around.

Lens Baby WTF?
I don't know. Seems like the learning curve on this thing is over the hill and around the bend from me.
Fun though.

Traveling Paws
We took the little dog with us on vacation.
He rode in his crate between the front seats.
He didn't like this at first, but wised up pretty fast.
He found he liked to look at stuff.
There was a lot to look at. He was up for anything we were up for.
And usually faster too.
Now, I'm not saying my dog is smarter than yours,
but he learned the time to start fussing to get out of the car was when the GPS Lady said, "Recalculating."
That would be because we were ignoring her instructions, had changed directions and were about to stop.
Recalculating.
What? No seat belt? |

Let's go down there. |

Yeah, you are. |
