Candace tagged me for a book meme.

1) Find the nearest book
2) Open to page 123
3) Type lines 6-8 of said book

"The whites maintained that it was an impiety, when praying to God, to turn toward where the sun rises in the winter; the blacks asserted that God abhorred the prayers of men who turned toward where the sun sets in the summer. Zadig ordained that people should turn whichever way they wanted."

Candide, Zadig and Selected Stories by Voltaire.

Tag, anyone who wants to play.

  1. eh, world lit! wouldn't have read it otherwise, lol!

  2. I was looking up something for my current writing project, or that wouldn't have been so close at hand.

  3. We could use someone with a reasonable style about now.

  4. My lowbrow response is on my blog, something from Sara Paretsky's crime novel. Geez, I should have chosen more carefully!

It's like choosing your best underwear--who knows when you're going to fall down and your skirt fly over your head? Of course, I never wear skirts, so the whole issue is moot.

  5. What I'm actually reading is called Seven Deadly Wonders by Michael Reilly - an action/adventure, but what was at hand, nearest the computer was Voltaire, giving all the world a too cerebral view of me.

Glad to hear from you!
